Schedule:

October 18th - 21st, 2019

Description:

Are you ready to help your patients/clients create emotional and spiritual change? Internal Family Systems therapy (IFS) provides a groundbreaking model for mental health professionals to learn about transformation, taking an effective and compassionate approach to the parts of their patients/clients that are stuck in reactive patterns and holding them back from living their best life.

Developed by Richard Schwartz, PhD, this workshop will introduce the basic principles and techniques of IFS and illustrate with experiential exercises and video illustrations. Clinicians will:

  • Review the history and development of the Internal Family Systems model of therapy
  • Explain the basic assumptions of IFS in regard to non-pathological multiplicity of mind and the concept of “SELF”
  • List the goals of IFS Therapy
  • Describe the concept of releasing uncomfortable feelings and beliefs which allows harmony and balance in the inner system
  • Name the three categories of sub-personalities that most often present in therapy: Manager parts, Firefighter parts, Exiled parts
  • Identify the dynamics of the three-group system
  • Tell the IFS concept of SELF and its role and effectiveness as a leader in the system
  • Interpret the qualities of SELF: curiosity, compassion, confidence, courage, clarity, creativity, connectedness, calmness
  • Summarize the power of working with the client¹s Self in therapy
  • Describe the benefits of IFS therapy
  • Discuss the therapeutic relationship as it applies to the IFS therapist
  • Review and clarify material covered during the workshop.

This application of family systems principles and techniques is now widely used internationally in the treatment of trauma and severe diagnoses. IFS is a gentle, yet powerful, healing delivery system that releases the therapist from the need to be clever because it trusts and empowers the patient’s/client’s Self.
